the soil?
Compost is a food source for earth worms and other beneficial soil microbes. They eat and digest compost, then excrete worm castings which are rich in plant nutrients and immediately available to the lawn roots. As earthworms burrow through the soil, they create tunnels that give the roots room to grow. These tunnels also loosen the soil to allow air to pass through, and store rain used by plants.
. . . that Compost provides your lawn with beneficial organic matter? As compost breaks down in soil, it provides your lawn with beneficial organic matter. Organic matter functions like a sponge, increasing the soil’s water holding capacity so that rain water is held in the root zone for the grass to use.
. . . that Compost is a source of slow-release nutrients?
Compost stores and slowly releases major nutrients as well as a wide range of micronutrients not found in commercial fertilizers. Because these nutrients are released slowly, they are used by the plant without leaching into the ground water. So, keep in mind, that when using straight pelletized compost such as Lawn Top Dressing, the green up will not be immediate, but the benefit to the soil will produce a beautiful lawn over time.
